refreshers for 'older' drivers.

Post by evondoll on Fri Feb 11, 2011 5:15 pm

I've recently been asked to do a refresher course for an elderly gentleman. He is 85 and hasn't driven for 4 or 5 years (still has his licence though).

Just looking for any pointers as I haven't done this kind of work before!

My general plan is to start with an assessment drive (after eyesight check of course) and then see if there is any area's of improvement. Although not sure yet if thats the right way to go about it. Can't decide if I should drive him to a quiet road first or let him drive straight away....

To ask for help there has to be a question over confidence, so keep that in mind.

The general health of the driver is important. Here is one driver believed to have become ill at the wheel.

Thanks for the link Patrick, never good when someone gets killed on our roads.
